The Lihue Plantation Mill was the largest on Kauai, capable of processing over 80,000 tons of ninety-six percent sugar annually. During harvest season the mill operated night and day, five days a week until the plantation closed in 2000. The mill power-plant was then sold, disassembled and shipped to the Philippines where it continues to make electricity from cane mill bio-waste (bagasse). The rest of the mill was torn down and sold for scrap.
