
Built originally as a residence, in the '50s the building was moved to this location next to the base yard on Mahimahi Road to use as a fire station A fireman's job on Kauai in the '70s was a plum with few fires or emergency calls. The pay was middle class, the benefits generous, the union strong and the opportunities to finagle overtime widespread. The greatest danger was weight gain, high blood pressure and diabetes. All the girls wanted to marry firemen!
