Steve Kuzen, Richie Palumbo, and Dana Sanders made many trips to the old Kilauea plantation to salvage material to build this treehouse. A masterpiece of design and construction, the house was lashed to the trees with cable—no nails in any of the supporting ironwoods. It was called “the boat” because it floated when the trees swayed and bent in the winds. Steve and Dana took off on a surf adventure and left the house to Richie.
“I was sixteen when I came to Taylor Camp, and I lived there for four years. It soon hit me, ‘Move in with the guy that grows the best weed and has the nicest tree house.’ My objectives became very clear and that guy was Richie Palumbo.” — Diane Elizabeth
